The Indian equity market extended its gains from the previous session and ended higher on Monday, with the Nifty closing around 18,600 supported by buying across sectors, barring FMCG and IT.

On the back of supportive global cues, the market started on a stronger note and pushed the Nifty index closer to 18,650. However, last-hour selling has erased some of the intraday gains.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro and Grasim Industries were the biggest gainers on the Nifty. Losers were Divis Laboratories, Tech Mahindra, Asian Paints, Nestle India and BPCL.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 62787.47 up by 240.36 points or by 0.38 % and then NSE Nifty was at 18593.85 up by 59.75 points or by 0.32 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 62943.2 and intraday low of 62751.72 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 18640.15 and intraday low of 18582.8

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1394.80,+4.01%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 950.80,+2.68%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 546.45,+2.00%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 2269.15,+1.52%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 109.35,+1.25%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1109.25,-1.16%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3200.00,-1.09%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 21832.00,-0.95%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1924.65,-0.78%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2696.40,-0.73%), among others.

Auto index was at 33602.08 up by 408.62 points or by 1.23%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1394.80,+4.01%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 546.45,+2.00%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 149.00,+1.92%), Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 1775.45,+1.38%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 9581.10,+0.97%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4104 , shares advanced were 2275 while 1606 shares declined and 223 were unchanged.
