Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty plunged more than 1 per cent on Monday, as investor sentiment took a hit after crude oil prices surged sharply amid rising tensions in West Asia.

Negative global cues and continued foreign fund outflows further weighed on market confidence.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 80238.85 down by -1048.34 points or by -1.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24865.7 down by -312.95 points or by -1.24 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 80632.55 and intraday low of 78543.73 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24989.35 and intraday low of 24603.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 453.75,+2.09%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1752.70,+0.84%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 314.80,+0.38%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4521.40,-6.25%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4066.45,-5.00%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1470.20,-3.33%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 14380.60,-3.29%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2307.60,-2.89%), among others.
