The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the widening and improvement of the Kalibor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 in Assam to a four-lane highway at a total cost of Rs 6,957 crore.

The 85.67 km project will be executed on the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode and includes a 34.5 km elevated corridor through the Kaziranga National Park to ensure free passage of wildlife. It also provides for two greenfield bypasses—11.5 km at Jakhalabandha and 9.5 km at Bokakhat—along with the upgradation of 30.22 km of existing road.

Designed to decongest the corridor and enhance connectivity, the project will link Guwahati, Kaziranga, and Numaligarh while integrating with NH-127, NH-129, SH-35, three railway stations, and three airports (Tezpur, Lilabari, Jorhat). It will also improve access to key tourism and religious sites such as Kaziranga National Park, Deopahar, Kakochang Waterfall, and the Maha Mrityunjay Temple.

The project is expected to generate around 15.42 lakh person-days of direct and 19.19 lakh person-days of indirect employment. Once completed, it is expected to boost trade, tourism, and regional economic growth, with an estimated annual average daily traffic of 13,800 PCUs in FY25.
