Electric vehicle (EV) retail sales in India surged 52.9% year-on-year to 2,98,448 units in August, taking overall EV penetration to 12.3%, up from 9.5% in August 2025, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
The electric two-wheeler segment led the growth, with retail sales rising 67.05% YoY to 1,83,204 units, compared with 1,09,673 units a year earlier.
Electric passenger vehicle (PV) sales also recorded strong growth, rising to 30,696 units in August from 20,210 units in the year-ago period.
