Continuing their winning run for the third session in a row, the BSE Sensex surged nearly 1,148 points to breach the 51,000-level and the NSE Nifty recaptured the 15,200-mark on Wednesday, propped up by intense buying in financial and energy stocks.

Analysts said strengthening of spectrum footprints by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio in the auctions is expected to yield market share gains for the two telcos.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 51444.65 up by 1147.76 points or by 2.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15245.6 up by 326.5 points or by 2.19 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 51539.89 and intraday low of 50512.84 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 15273.15 and intraday low of 14995.8

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 10386.85,+5.18%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2201.35,+4.52%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 5544.95,+4.47%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 631.85,+3.50%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 2652.80,+3.43%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7124.30,-1.26%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3899.90,-1.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 852.20,-0.90%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 14548.92 up by 455.43 points or by 3.23%. Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 776.70,+5.64%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 62.00,+4.91%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 359.35,+4.08%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 427.95,+3.48%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 349.30,+3.27%),.

On the flip side, Auto index was at 24066.32 down by -149.58 points or by -0.62%. Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3424.50,-1.45%), TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 624.00,-1.30%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7124.30,-1.26%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3899.90,-1.24%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 131.10,-1.13%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3469 , shares advanced were 2001 while 1270 shares declined and 198 were unchanged.
