Equity benchmark Sensex rallied 639 points on Thursday, propelled by index majors Infosys, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries amid a positive trend in global markets.

Tech Mahindra was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, jumping over 5 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finserv, L&T, Tata Steel and Infosys.

On the other hand, HUL, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto and M&M were the laggards. According to Milind Muchhala, Executive Director, Julius Baer, Indian markets have made a smart pull-back, supported by the positive global set-up and a decent start to the Q1FY22 earnings season. The 30-share benchmark index ended at 52837.21 up by 638.7 points or by 1.22 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15824.05 up by 191.95 points or by 1.23 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 52867.26 and intraday low of 52471.23 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 15834.8 and intraday low of 15726.4

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1148.45,+5.65%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6187.70,+4.21%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 546.50,+3.93%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 13059.85,+3.72%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1272.95,+3.27%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2378.65,-2.27%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3104.45,-1.73%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3852.60,-1.32%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 758.10,-0.27%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 19327.53 up by 566.45 points or by 3.02%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 716.70,+5.11%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 393.75,+3.59%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1272.95,+3.27%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 126.20,+2.77%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 393.45,+2.62%),.

FMCG index was at 13556.66 down by -29.98 points or by -0.22%. Venky's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 3103.45,-7.53%), Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd. (Rs. 18.20,-4.96%), Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd. (Rs. 32.80,-3.53%), Agro Tech Foods Ltd. (Rs. 1055.55,-2.68%), Varun Beverages Ltd. (Rs. 759.90,-2.33%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3682 , shares advanced were 2303 while 1216 shares declined and 163 were unchanged.
