History of Company

The company history sections lists out major chronological events that happened to the company.
The company was incorporated on August 16, 1963 as Aeronautics India Limited, a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1956. Subsequently, Hindustan Aircraft Limited, a company incorporated on December 23, 1940 under the Companies Act, 1913 was merged with the company, pursuant to the Aircraft Companies Amalgamation order dated September 28, 1964 passed by the Company Law Board. The name of the company was changed to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, by a certificate of change of name issued by the Registrar of Companies, Maharashtra dated December 5, 1964 with effect from October 1, 1964. The status of the company was changed to public limited company by a special resolution of the members of the company passed at the Extra Ordinary General Meeting held on July 10, 1995. On June 27, 2007, the company was notified as a Navratna company by the Department of Public Enterprises, GoI through notification bearing number DPE OM No. 26(3)/2005-GM-GL-86. As a Navratna company, the company is eligible for some enhanced delegation of powers to the Board, including having greater autonomy to incur capital expenditure for our projects without the GoI approval and allows us to make investments in joint ventures and subsidiaries in India and abroad, if any, subject to an investment ceiling set by the GoI.

- Hindustan Aircraft Limited was amalgamated with the company pursuant to the order of the Company Law Board dated September 28, 1964

1970

- Company established the Helicopter factory at Bangalore

1983

- Company established the Korwa Division for Advanced Avionics at Korwa, Uttar Pradesh

1998

- Company established the Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine Division for aeroderivative gas turbines and industrial engines at Bangalore

2000

- Company established the Airport Service Centre at Bangalore

2006

- Company upgraded the Barrackpore Branch Factory to a Division

2008

- Company created a separate Helicopter Complex

2015

- Restructuring of all R&D Centres under Design Complex

2016

- Upgradation of the Korwa branch of Aerospace Systems and Equipment Research and Design Centre to an R&D Centre

- 100% subsidiary of the company, Naini Aerospace Limited, incorporated on December 29, 2016

2017

- A subsidiary of the company, Indo-Russian Helicopters Limited, initially formed as a joint venture by a Shareholders' Agreement dated October 15, 2016, incorporated on May 2, 2017

2018 -Hindustan Aeronautics today launched an initial public offer to raise up to Rs 4,230 crore, through which government will divest up to 20.20 per cent in the Maharatna company. -IEI Industry Excellence Award 2018 for demonstrating highest order of Business Excellence. -`Make in India Excellence for UDAN' Award during `Aero MRO India 2018'.

2019 -Governance Now 7th PSU award for `Research and Innovation' category for the year 2019. -HAL places order with Thales for 2.75-inch rocket launchers to equip Indian armed forces.

2020 -HAL inks pact with Israeli firm to develop UAV. -HAL Produced FOC Standard LCAs Join IAF Stable.

2021 -Awarded first rank (Gold Category) by Government eMarketplace (GeM) of Ministry under CPSE category for the order volume placed by HAL through the GeM portal during the year 2020-21. -IEI Industry Excellence Award 2021 by virtue of demonstrating a higher order of business excellence.

2022

-HAL Signs Contract for Export of ALH to Mauritius. -HAL and Safran Sign Strategic MoU during Ground-Breaking Ceremony of HE-MRO at Goa. -HAL and Israel Aerospace Industries Sign MoU for MMTT. -HAL Signs Contract with Nigerian Army for Phase II Training on Chetak Helicopter. -HAL Signs Contract Worth Over $100 Million with Honeywell for HTT-40 Engines.

2023

-Hindustan Aeronautics to collaborate with GA-ASI. -The Company has splits its face value from Rs. 10/- to Rs. 5/-.
